Visa and Registration
The majority of international applicants who want to study in Russia will need a
passport and a visa. International applicants from Azerbaijan, Abkhazia, Southern
Ossetia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Armenia
and Uzbekistan do not need a visa. Remember: The duration of a visa-free stay is
limited to 1 or 3 months, as such arrangements are designed for tourists, not long-
term visitors.
Applicants from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan need their
national passport to visit Russia. Prospective students from other countries,
including the CIS countries not mentioned above need an international passport to
come to Russia.

Who do not need student visa?
Applicants from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan,
Uzbekistan and Southern Ossetia don’t need student visa.

Where to apply for a Student Visa?
Student visas are obtained through the Russian Embassy or Russian Consulate in
the country of residence, or authorized visa centre.

Step 1. Obtaining an invitation
Conservatoire issues invitations for foreign applicants who want to study in it. The
procedure of obtaining the invitation lasts about one month so you should start the
procedure prior to actual travel day considering the time necessary for obtaining
Russian visa in the country of residence.

Validity term of invitation
You can start the process of obtaining an invitation not less than 45 days prior to
the actual travel date. The invitation is valid for three months
To issue the applicant’s invitation the Foreign Students’ Office needs the
- Scan copy of international passport
- Planned arrival date (mind that the procedure of obtaining the invitation
takes about one month)
- Validity term of invitation (max – 90 days)
- Places of visit in Russia (besides Saratov you should mention the city of
international airport you arrive at – Moscow, St. Petersburg or other)
- Personal data of the applicant (in Russian)

  • State and the exact place of birth (region, province, city, etc)
  • State and region in the country of permanent residence
  • State and city where visa is obtained

Step 2 Preparing a package of documents
After obtaining the invitation an applicant should prepare the following package of
documents for Russian Embassy or Russian Consulate
1. International passport (original) and a copy of the front page.
2. Official invitation for entry to Russia (original).
3. Application form (e-form ).
4. Photograph 3.5 x 4.5 cm (1.18 x1.57 inches).
5. HIV-negative status certificate (The document should be issued in Russian
and in English and valid for 3 months).
6. For applicants under 18 years – parental consent to travel certified by a

Step 3. Submitting documents to Russian Embassy or Russian Consulate
Applicant should submit the prepared package of documents to Russian Embassy
or Russian Consulate in the country of residence and pay Student Visa fee. Student
Visa is issued within 2-3 weeks.

Validity term of Student Visa
Initially, a student visa is issued for three months. Upon arrival in Russia one
should apply to Foreign Students’ Office for a one-year student multi-visa which
allows to travel to and from Russia within the validity period of the visa. When the
visa is about to expire, one should apply for a further 1-year extension.
Stamp duty for a one-year student multi-visa is about 1 600 rub (approx 30$).

Upon arrival in Russia every foreign citizen should fill in a migration card and
keep it through the whole period of stay in the country. Within 2 working days
upon arrival migration card must be submitted to Foreign Students’ office and

Migration card proves that a foreign citizen crossed the border of Russian
Federation legally and has a legal right to live, study and work here.
Free migration card forms can be obtained in the train, in the plane, at the railway
station or airport. Migration card is valid through the whole period of staying in
Russia. It should be handed back to the passport control on departure. On return to
Russia a new migration card should be issued.

Migration registration
Within 7 day upon arrival in Russian Federation foreign applicants should submit
the following documents to the Foreign Students office
 International passport
 Visa
 Migration card
The documents will be returned in 3-4 days along with registration slip
(notification form). The main part of the slip is submitted to the authorities. The
tear-off receipt legalizes applicant’s stay in Russia and must be kept through the
stay in Russia.

How to extend the term of migration registration
Contact Conservatoire Foreign Students’ office 30 days prior to its expiry date.

Loss of migration documents
In case of loss or damage of migration documents a foreign citizen must report this
to The General Directorate for migration of Ministry of internal Affairs of Russian
Federation within 3 days. Upon presentation of passport or any other identifying
document a free copy of migration card will be issued.
